Going Forward

We believe Jesus Christ is Lord.

We believe the Bible is God’s unchanging Word.

We believe marriage is a sacred covenant between a man and a woman.

We believe God has called us to uphold and proclaim God’s truth in love despite the pressures of culture.

Going Forward Team News

Through our efforts and the efforts of other like-minded churches Amendment B has been defeated by a majority of the presbyteries. In a recent article Paul Detterman, Presbyterians For Renewal (PFR) Executive Director, states: “Is it important that Amendment 08B has been rejected by a majority of the 173 presbyteries? Absolutely! Even within our current theological confusion, elders and clergy can, by God’s grace and leading, still affirm that unrepentant sin is not an attribute worthy of ordination.”

What can you do? He suggests the following: “Rise above the current controversy by recommitting yourself and encouraging others to joyfully accept the ongoing challenge of proclaiming the risen and living Christ with enthusiasm, compassion, and joy. The challenge is more subtle and much more insidious than any General Assembly action or any presbytery vote. As the cultural struggle is intensifying, affirming God’s intention for human sexual relationships becomes more complicated but also more necessary. As more people seek to discover Jesus Christ beyond the structure of the organized church, honoring and proclaiming Him through our individual networks and relationships becomes more urgent.”

What specifically will our Going Forward leaders be doing this summer? We will continue to meet and strategize with other like-minded churches. We are looking at various ways to stay connected with one another. Joint prayer and worship times are being planned.

Katrina Dunderdale and Bud McCutcheon are serving on a task force looking at how Presbytery members can improve relationships within the presbytery and return to a more integrated, forward-thinking organization instead of just pushing papers around.

Additionally, we are deliberating on a proactive strategy to turn back the errant theology that will undoubtedly resume before the next General Assembly.
